Bet responsibly

The legal minimum age is set by each state, not by this site. For sportsbooks it is 21 in most states and 18 in six — the District of Columbia, Montana, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Washington and Wyoming. Horse racing is 18 in most states that set a minimum, and daily fantasy ranges from 18 to 21 depending on the state. We hold no state minimum for prediction markets, which are federally regulated rather than state-licensed, so the operator’s own rule applies there. Each state page lists the minimum we hold for that state and market. Betting should be entertainment, not a way to make money.

Set a budget before you start, only bet money you can afford to lose, and treat any bonus as part of that budget rather than free money.

Warning signs

Gambling may be becoming a problem if you notice any of these:

  • Betting more than you planned, or more often

  • Chasing losses: betting again to win back money you have lost

  • Borrowing money, or using money meant for bills, to bet

  • Hiding or lying about how much time or money you spend betting

  • Feeling restless or irritable when you try to cut back

  • Betting to escape stress, boredom or low mood

  • Gambling causing problems with work, family or friends

Tools that can help

Licensed US betting operators offer responsible gambling tools in your account settings, including deposit, wager and time limits, cool-off periods and self-exclusion. Many states also run a self-exclusion program that covers every licensed operator in the state.

Outside the betting apps, many banks let you block gambling transactions on your cards, and blocking software can stop access to betting sites and apps on your devices.
